In response to dramatic changes in school-based practice, ASHA has developed a new position statement on the roles and responsibilities of speech-language pathologists in schools. Within the changing educational context, this document highlights critical roles for SLPs in education and the need for clinicians to become key players in school reform efforts. It is anticipated that this position may require a realignment of existing roles and responsibilities in the context of a reasonable workload with appropriate professional preparation and lifelong learning.
