Delaware licensed mental health counselors have a biennial license renewal with a deadline of September 30th, even years. Forty hours of board-approved continuing education are needed to renew a license. Twenty hours of continuing education are allowed for home study courses, and twenty hours must be live and face-to-face. The board recognizes The American Psychological Association and The National Board for Certified Counselors as providers of continuing education for Delaware mental health counselors.
One of the main objectives of continuing education is to ensure the highest possible standards for the practice of mental health counseling as it requires licensees to participate in further educational opportunities. In taking advantage of these opportunities, licensees can add to their knowledge and competence earned through prior education and training.
Professional Development Resources is approved by The American Psychological Association and The National Board of Certified Counselors to sponsor continuing education for mental health counselors. Professional Development Resources maintains all responsibility for programs and content. Delaware mental health counselors can earn 20 hours of their required continuing education hours through online coursework offered at http://www.pdresources.org.
Requirements for Continuing Education
As a condition for license renewal, licensees are required to complete a minimum of 40 hours of continuing educational course work per licensure/renewal period every two years. 20 hours of the continuing education hours can be earned through home study, while 20 hours should be earned live and face-to-face.
