Georgia licensed mental health counselors have a biennial license renewal with a September 30th deadline, even years. Thirty-five (35) board-approved continuing education hours are required to renew a license. Ten (10) hours of continuing education are allowed in home study. The board recognizes The National Board of Certified Counselors, The American Psychological Association, and The Association of Social Work Boards as providers of continuing education for Georgia mental health counselors.
One of the main objectives of continuing education is to ensure the highest standards for the mental health counseling profession. This requires licensees to participate in ongoing educational activities that will enhance knowledge and competence gained through prior education.
Professional Development Resources is approved by The Association of Social Work Boards, The National Board of Certified Counselors, and The American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for mental health counselors. Professional Development Resources maintains all responsibility for programs and content. Georgia mental health counselors can earn up to ten (10) hours of continuing education hours through online coursework available at http://www.pdresources.org.
