Licensed Georgia social workers have a license renewal every two years with a deadline of September 30th, even years. 35 board-approved continuing education hours are required to renew a license. 10 hours of continuing education is allowed for home study. The board recognizes The American Psychological Association, The Association of Social Work Boards, and The National Board of Certified Counselors as providers Georgia social workers continuing education.
The main goal of continuing education is to assure high standards for the profession of social work. All licensees are required to participate in recurring educational activities that will increase competence and knowledge gained from prior education.
Professional Development Resources is approved by The Association of Social Work Boards, The American Psychological Association, and The National Board of Certified Counselors to sponsor continuing education for social workers. Professional Development Resources maintains all responsibility for content and programs. Georgia social workers can earn up to 10 hours of continuing education hours through online coursework at http://www.pdresources.org.
Continuing Education Requirements
Licensees are required as a condition of renewal to complete a minimum of 35 hours of continuing educational activities per licensure/renewal period every two years. Required continuing educational activities:
- Five (5) hours of ethics
- Fifteen (15) hours of core studies
- Fifteen (15) hours of professional related studies
