Licensed Iowa marriage and family therapists have a biennial license renewal with a deadline of September 30th, even years. To renew a license, forty (40) board-approved continuing education hours are required. Twenty (20) hours of continuing education is allowed for home study if approved by The National Board of Certified Counselors.
One of the main goals of continuing education is to assure high standards for the profession of marriage and family therapist. All licensed Iowa marriage and family therapists are required to participate in ongoing educational activities that will add to existing knowledge and competence gained from prior educational experiences.
Professional Development Resources is approved by The National Board of Certified Counselors to sponsor continuing education for marriage and family therapists. Professional Development Resources maintains all responsibility for programs and content. Iowa marriage and family therapists can earn up to twenty (20) continuing education hours through online coursework at http://www.pdresources.org/.
Requirements for Continuing Education
Iowa licensees are required as a renewal condition to complete a minimum of 40 hours of continuing educational coursework per renewal/licensure period every two years. 20 continuing education hours can be earned through home study.
