Continuing Education Requirements
• Thirty (30) continuing education hours for licensed independent clinical social workers (LICSW)
• Twenty (20) continuing education hours for licensed clinical social workers (LCSW)
• Fifteen (15) continuing education hours for licensed social workers (LSW)
• Ten (10) continuing education hours for licensed social work associates (LSWA)
All licensees are required, as a condition of license renewal, to complete their minimum continuing educational activities per licensure/renewal period every two years.
There is no limit to the number of continuing education hours allowed for home study, and topics must be related to social work concepts, theories, and or practice. The board recognizes The Association of Social Work Boards as a provider of continuing education courses for Massachusetts social workers.
The main goal in continuing education is to ensure high standards for the practice of social work in requiring licensees to actively participate in ongoing educational activities that enhance prior education and training. By participating in continuing education, licensees can build upon existing competence and knowledge.
Professional Development Resources is approved by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) to sponsor continuing education for social workers. Professional Development Resources maintains responsibility for all content and programs. Massachusetts social workers can earn all of their required hours through online coursework offered at http://www.pdresources.org.
