Every two years, licensed Mississippi marriage and family therapists have a license renewal with a September 30th deadline. In order to renew a license, twenty-four (24) board-approved continuing education hours are required. Eight (8) hours of continuing education is allowed for home study if approved by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
Of the twenty-four (24) continuing education hours required, four (4) hours of professional ethics, and two (2) hours of cultural diversity is required for each renewal. Online courses are not allowed to earn these particular credits.
The main goal of continuing education is to assure the highest standards for the marriage and family therapist profession. All licensed Mississippi marriage and family therapists are required to participate in continuing educational activities that contribute to the competence and knowledge gained from previous educational experiences.
Professional Development Resources is approved by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy to sponsor continuing education for marriage and family therapists. Professional Development Resources maintains all responsibility for content and programs. Mississippi marriage and family therapists can earn up to eight (8) continuing education hours through online coursework at http://www.pdresources.org.
