Licensed New Mexico mental health counselors have a September 30th license renewal deadline every two years. To renew a license, forty (40) board-approved continuing education hours is required. Twelve (12) hours of continuing education is allowed for home study if approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors. Six (6) hours of ethics is required for all mental health counselors, and supervisors are required to have three (3) hours in supervision at each license renewal.
One of the main goals of continuing education is to assure high standards for the profession of mental health counselor. All licensed New Mexico mental health counselors are required to participate in ongoing educational activities that will add to competence and knowledge earned from prior educational experiences.
Professional Development Resources is approved by The National Board of Certified Counselors to sponsor continuing education for mental health counselors.
