Licensed New Mexico marriage and family therapists have a license renewal every two years with a deadline of September 30th. In order to renew a license, forty (40) board-approved continuing education hours are required. Twelve (12) hours of continuing education is allowed for home study if approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors or the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors. Six (6) hours of ethics is required for all marriage and family therapists, and supervisors require three hours in supervision at each renewal.
The main purpose of continuing education is to ensure the highest standards for the profession of marriage and family therapist. All licensed New Mexico marriage and family therapists are required to engage in ongoing educational opportunities that will increase competence and knowledge gained from previous educational experiences.
Professional Development Resources is approved by The National Board of Certified Counselors to sponsor continuing education for marriage and family therapists.
