Continuing Education and License Renewals for North Carolina Occupational Therapists

NC OT Continuing EducationNorth Carolina-licensed occupational therapists have an annual license renewal with a June 30th deadline. Continuing education is due by May 31st of every year. Fifteen points (hours) are required for license renewal every year. There are no limits on home study if AOTA approved, and there must be a post-test. One hour of ethics is required every other renewal or odd years.

Professional Development Resources is an American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) approved provider of continuing education (#3159). The assignment of AOTA CEUs does not imply endorsement of specific course content, products, or clinical procedures by AOTA. Professional Development Resources is also approved by the Florida Board of OT Practice (#34) and is CE Broker compliant.

Continuing Education and License Renewals for North Carolina Speech Language Pathologists

Thirty (30) hours of continuing education are required every three (3) years, and are due next in 2014.

There is no home study limit if ASHA approved. ASHA certification can be used as proof of completion of continuing education credits. See our current list of continuing education courses for speech language pathologists.

Continuing education assures the best possible standards for the speech language pathologist profession. All licensees are required to participate in continuing education as a condition of licensing.

Professional Development Resources is approved by the Continuing Education Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) to provide continuing education activities in speech-language pathology and audiology. See course website for number of ASHA CEUs, instructional level and content area. ASHA CE Provider approval does not imply endorsement of course content, specific products or clincial procedures.

CEUs are awarded by the ASHA CE Registry upon receipt of the CEU Participant Form from the ASHA Approved CE Provider. Please note that the completion date that appears on ASHA transcripts is the last day of the quarter, regardless of when the course was completed. Provider #AAUM

North Carolina-licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) are required to obtain 20 hours of continuing education (CE) credits each year for license renewal on June 30th. 3 hours must be in the area of professional ethics. [The previous requirement was 12 hours per year and ethics was not required.]

CE courses that by title and content deal with marriage and family therapy practice and therapeutic issues, ethics and supervision of marriage and family therapy shall be approved by the Board.

Evidence of completion shall consist of a certificate of completion signed by the continuing education provider and shall include date(s) of attendance, number of hours, name of attendee, and name of course.

Professional Development Resources is approved as a provider of continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB Provider #1046, ACE Program); by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC Provider #5590) and by the American Psychological Association (APA) to offer continuing education for MFTs. North Carolina-licensed Occupational Therapists (OTs), are required to earn 15 points (hours) of continuing education each year for license renewal on June 30th. 1 hour on OT Ethics is required every other year (due odd years). All 15 hours are allowed from online/home study courses that are offered by an AOTA-approved provider and require a posttest.

Continuing competence activities must be complete by May 31 of the renewal year. Continuing competence activities must be related to roles and responsibilities in occupational therapy and must serve to protect the public by enhancing the licensee’s continuing competence.

Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants applying for license renewal shall document having earned a minimum of 15 points for approved continuing competence activities.
